Satellite! Why not!
by Nick Scott

[This article is soooo out of date it is laughable, but is still
worth putting in for comedy value. Thanks to Ken for submitting
another one from the vaults!]

Someday, in the not so distant future, everybody who has a TV will
have satellite or cable. It is inevitable. The choice of entertainment
on the terrestrial channels is just too limited. Look at it this way.
You have four channels. BBC 2 is almost always a waste of time.
Too many documentaries and too much Open University. Channel 4 is
next in line. Apart from the odd few good programs it does show a
lot of crap. The BBC and ITV are about as good as each other but
are still crap. They show the same sort of programs over and over
and aren't willing to try anything new and what happened when they
do? Just take a look at Scavengers! Two million spent on a
"Futuristic" set and what is it! Crap! It's a super flop! There's
about as much interest in it as there is in Open University. So
there are a few disadvantages. Another disadvantage is you have to
watch what is on at that time. For example you want to watch sport
at 4.30 on a Tuesday afternoon. Apart from the odd bit of cricket
you haven't got a chance. You want to see the news? Wait an hour.
You want a movie? Wait till Saturday if you want a film that has
been made in the twentieth century. You want music? Wait. You want
to shop? No. On satellite and cable you can have these things instantly.

In every diamond there is a crack (it goes something like that) and
the crack in satellite is the subscription costs. Particularly for
the movie channels. Sixteen quid a month for three movie channels.
Better movies than Terrestrial TV but is it worth it? Multi-channels
(Sky-One, Discovery, QVC etc) are free with them. Sky sports however
is a bargain. For about seven quid a month you get two channels of
endless entertainment. Three quid if you have the movie channels.

So my advice to you cheapos out there is, basically, get Sky!

End.
